Tesla: a range-bound stock with a margin problem
Automotive gross margin has fallen for six straight quarters while the stock trades on products that do not ship yet. I have no position and no strong view on direction; this report is about why, and what would change that.

Thesis
I do not have one, and that is the point of writing this down. The bull case rests on products with no revenue yet; the bear case rests on a car business whose margins keep shrinking. Both can be true for a long time, and the stock has spent the year in a wide range that reflects exactly that.
Catalysts
- Quarterly deliveries, which move the stock for a day and then mean-revert.
- Any dated timeline for the products the valuation depends on.
Risks
Being on either side of a stock where the story and the numbers point in different directions.
What would prove me wrong
A weekly close outside the range on volume. Then one side has won the argument and there is something to trade.
Position
None. Watching for the range to resolve.
